The Challenge
Healthlocums are one of the largest healthcare recruitment agencies in London; they provide doctor cover for NHS and private hospitals, Trusts, General Practices, Prisons, Military and Government Establishments.
Healthlocums previously had a peer to peer network which did not provide the security features that a server client network has. They also had lots of problems with network connectivity and sharing files.
Healthlocums were very organized in what they wanted and actually provided us with a list of what they required in our initial free consultation.

The solution that healthlocums required was clearly Microsoft Small Business Server.
Share Calendars / E-mails out of office for all users/ Fast E-mail.
Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 comes with exchange server 2003 which enabled us to implement calendar & contact sharing throughout the organisation.
Exchange Server is Microsoft’s messaging and collaboration server, exchange server software that runs on healthlocums server enables them to send and receive fast electronic mail and other forms of interactive communication through computer networks.
Exchange 2003 also comes with outlook web access which enable users to log on to there e-mail, calendar and contacts from anywhere in the world with an Internet Connection.
E-mail and virus scanning.
We installed Sophos small business suite onto the server which gives complete desktop and mail gateway protection against viruses, spam and other email-borne security threats for the entire network. Sophos combines industry-leading anti-virus and anti-spam technologies in one solution. Unlike other virus companies Sophos updates via its virus definition files every 60 minutes ensuring that healthlocums is up to date with the latest threats.
Secure Folders with different security levels.
Small business Server 2003 is built on Windows 2003 server and has a host of file security features which has enabled us to set up multiple security levels and access rights for folders across the company.
Fast broadband internet access on all machines.
We have used BT to provide Internet Access at healthlocums, because we have opted for a network package of there ADSL they provide healthlocums with 4 hour hardware replacement on any routers that BT have provided. Small Business server has ensured that the ADSL connection is firewalled and is shared securely amongst all users.
Backup Solution.
We have three procedures in place to safeguard Healthlocums in case of a disaster
1) We have utilized the volume shadow copy service that comes with Small Business Server 2003, volume shadow copy enables point-in-time backups.
2) We have implemented a Scheduled tape back up in collaboration with Veritas Backup exec that ensures that exchange and all data/system files are backed up to the tape drive
3) We have implemented an online backup solution which offers a fully automated internet backup solution that holds healthlocums data securely offsite. Our service encrypts healthlocums data and then sends it over there internet connection to one of the most secure data centres in Europe - a former NATO nuclear bunker. The beauty of online backup, is that in the event of data loss files can be restored directly online via a quick and user-friendly interface.
Ability to send faxes from desktop
Small Business server 2003 comes with an inbuilt server faxing service, which enables all users to send and receive faxes directly from there desktops by sharing the fax modem on the server.
